The company was first established in the borders of Syria and Lebanon. They were selling Arabic and Middle Eastern mezzas and basic mounet products to the neighboring villages. The name of the company then was“Société Libanaise des Conserves Modernes”
In the 1950’s, a land was purchased in Bar Elias, Chtaura. The factory was built, in the most fertile region of the Bekaa, Lebanon.
In the mid 1960’s, the first new Rossi Catelli line for tomato paste production was installed at the factory and that took the production output up to 200,000 cans sold in Lebanon and neighboring countries.
During the war, food supplies in Lebanon were running low but Conserves Modernes Chtaura SAL kept going. All the machines and production lines were modernized and refurbished. Our products were available in supermarkets around the country, providing nutrition, flavor and hope to many Lebanese households.
New Bertuzi lines were introduced for jams, ketchup and fruits in syrup. The factory proudly inaugurated a new FVR production line for Ready-to-Serve Lebanese specialties production, allowing the range to be more diversified and more accessible. New markets were accessed, nothing was unattainable! A Frigoscandia freezing tunnel as well as a new Maseto sesame seed (for our Tahini paste) line were inaugurated during this period. This helped with the growth of the factory. The factory had higher sales and a broadening market share. Production in glass containers was also launched during this period. The factory started exporting to Saudi Arabia and to other emerging countries in the Gulf and achieved higher international sales.
In order to reach bigger markets and provide more choices, Conserves Baalbeck was created. New brands and new products were also launched such our famous Hummus Tahini, the speciality chick peas and tahini dip. Other innovative items were also incorporated such as Moujaddara (a traditional Lebanese lentil dip), Arnabieh Sauce (a Middle Eastern tahini sauce made with 5 types of citruses) and new lines of pulses. Our delicious line of renowned jams was perfected and expanded
After a steady presence in both the local and the Middle East market, the brand became a leader in the food processing sector. Modernizing the production lines expanded the factory’s manufacturing with 60 new different items.
New products such as Lebanese Loubiye with Tomato Sauce (Lebanese Green Beans) and other stews in cans were created in the early 90's, and a broader line of Foul Moudammas (Traditional Cooked Fava Beans) in different flavors and recipes, were launched.
Nowadays, Conserves Modernes Chtaura SAL is still a pioneer in the manufacturing sector and in the region. We have a popular international presence and recognition. While we have worked on a delicate rebranding by bringing back the original hand drawn logo that everyone loves, the brand is constantly growing and adapting to the modern age’s requirements and trends, from traditional to vegan, from organic to Ready-to-Serve, while always emphasizing on Lebanese and delicious! The new markets to which our products are exported now include more than 35 countries around the world such as Australia, China, Chile, Argentina and New Zealand. We have created new products such as Tahina sauces, Falafel mixes, Molasses and Syrups and launched innovative sub-brands such as Mezeh, Chef Chtaura and Oriental Diwan. Our newest project was our organic range, recently introduced under Mezeh.
